Hiring Caregivers


Remember to fully check out caregivers before hiring them to work in your home.  www.AgingPro.com has a great article about this, and write us if you have questions.  Check out the agency, if they are licensed, bonded, insured and background checked.  Make a list of expectations, so everyone is on the same page.  Best not to have caregivers live-in over 4-5 days in a row or else they tend to "move in" and can take over an older person's home. Tell Congress Your Wishes for Healthcare Reform 4-6 to 20


Congress will be in recess [technically called "district work period"] for the next two weeks [through April 20.]  Most members will spend at least some of this period in their local offices.  Now would be a great time to let them know what you want included when health care reform legislation is drafted. Quality Rating System for Nursing Homes launches

For the first time in history, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today released quality ratings for each of the nation’s 15,800 nursing homes that participate in Medicare or Medicaid.    Facilities are assigned star ratings from a low of one star to a high of five stars based on health inspection surveys, staffing information, and quality of care measures. The ratings are publicly available on the agency’s Nursing Home Compare Web site at www.medicare.gov.

New 111th Congress begins


The 111th Congress will convene on January 6.  The new Administration will begin two weeks later on January 20.   The Obama Administration's priorities are:  the economy; health care; education and "green jobs".  There will be an increased focus on these topics during the next several months.
